Final stretch nears

We are about to finish our first working prototype. We have finished our user interface and we have ordered parts for the next set of boxes. Among our last actual tasks is the circuit board which we are perfecting in our electronics laboratory.

When the circuit board is finished, we can attach the parts to the box and field test it in live conditions.

Showroom showoff

On thursday 10.3.2016 our team participated in ICT Showroom 2016 competition  in order to compete with other Capstone projects and to show our project to the public. The winner was our peer group, Escflow. Congratulations!

We have received very little feedback from our stand but we thought ourselves that the stand was a success. There was hardly any shortcomings and people seemed to enjoy at our stand.

The setup at the beginning of the day was smooth however we were lucky to have people who have been at ICT Showroom events before. The spesific information was a bit hard to find out.

During the day we used our members to deal with situations that came by and because we were present with good numbers we didn't have any problems maintaining a fluent and efficient rotation.

We all got to explore the other projects and thought that they were quite interesting as well. It's great to see that everyone had come up with a prototype of some sort and that they were eager to show it off too.

All in all, we had a interesting day and hope that our visitors got something for themselves at our stand.

Testing the system

During week 8 we got the system to create and archive measurement data from one of our members boiler room. The result was a stable stream of temperature information which was done via high powered modules. Later during week 8 we switched the high powered modules to a more power efficient ones so the power consumption would be more affordable.

The interface is looking better. It has the basic options which the user can modify at anytime he/she wants and is showing a paragraph where you can see the percentages of humidity and temperature.

Progress

Last week we had some trouble with our data transfer but we are getting the better of it. Raspberry Pi and Arduino Uno units are now communicating with each other wirelessly.

We have accomplished to get the system to write data to a data storage for later review. In our case the device will be a SD card.

UI is going forwards steadily as well.

Last week we had a task to produce a pitching video. You can review it from the following link:

Troubleshooting

The week 5 presented us with a variety of problems mainly with the wireless data transfer. We've got it working at week 4 but when we tried to run it in our teamwork space it wouldn't function correctly. Since then we have tried to figure out what was the reason why the wireless module is not operating the way it used to.

However we made some progress with our UI though it is still quite unfinished.

We will continue to troubleshoot our wireless connections by updating Raspberrys and Arduinos software and drivers next week.

Setting up

The week 4 was quite productive for our team. We have acquired majority of our necessary components for our project and we are able to start setting up the prototype testing environment. Here are some key points about what we did in week 4:

- Some acquisitions for the testing phase

- Wireless data transfer between Raspberry and Arduino

- Raspberrys database setup

- Testing humidity sensor with Arduino

- Designing our user interface

The work we have done have been mostly about getting the necessary components and to setting them up to work together. It has required some dabbling with the Pi, a bit of programming and some wiring. We have also started to design the interface the user is going to see when monitoring the process.

Our project is going forwards smoothly and accordingly.

Starting the project.

Scrum ok.
Planning ok.
The first sprint hasn't gone too well so far, but we'll try to improve.
